Dear
Duke J:
I attended college at SUNY Geneseo from 1977 to 1981 and became hooked on you
guys my first year there - I think 3/4 of the college used to follow you guys
around as you played Gentlemen Jim's Bar (GJ's) in Geneseo, to places in
Rochester, and I think we followed you a few times to gigs in Buffalo! My
roommates and I once cut our evening lecture class and drove in a blinding snowstorm
in a beatup Chevy Nova to see you in Rochester. We nearly drove off
the road numerous times, the car eventually broke down and had to be towed;
we sweet-talked the tow truck driver into bringing us to the bar and made it
just in time for your second set. Ended up hitchhiking back to Geneseo
in the wee hours (I'd kill my kids now if I knew they were doing that, and of
course I'll never admit that I did it) - that was one of the best times we ever
had at school! Had all your albums, of course. Hard to
believe my daughter is now the same age I was when I started listening to you
guys...I still have the albums - they're a bit beat up now, it's time to replace
them with the CDs!
I remember the night Duke came to play GJ's... without George. My
roommates and I were crushed up against the stage with a huge crowd behind us
and after a few songs, the whole place started yelling, "Where's George,
where's George?!" Marshall just kept looking down and shaking his
head and that's when we knew something was very wrong....a few months later,
at a concert in Rochester, we got a chance to ask him and he told us George was
very ill. We were crushed. George was a phenomenal part of the band
and we missed him very much.
I live in Syracuse now, and see Dave Hanlon now and then playing in a couple
of local bands... a few years ago I hired one of his bands to play at a corporate
employee event I was organizing. At the break, I pulled out the Taste the
Night and Band in Blue albums and asked if he was the same guy - his mouth
just dropped and he said he thought no one remembered Duke any more.
I don't know how he could think people would forget such a great band.
I guess I just wanted to let you know that Duke was a big part of the best times
of my life - so many of my college memories are wrapped up in Duke songs.
Thank
you for being SO good, and working so hard all those years ago.
Already working on a bunch of us coming out to Rochester Water Street Music Hall
in July to see you guys - can't wait; it's going to be just like old times!
Best,
Diane McKenney

Duke Jupiter is part of the soundtrack of my life. Back in 82 I was in a band touring the country and we heard "I'll Drink to You". I immediately bought the album and we did 4 of the songs off of it. The crowd always loved them. Over the years and several different bands we continued playing your songs. My wife and I wore out the album. The other day I found Duke Jupiter 1 on Ebay and bought it. I can't tell you how enjoyable it was listening to it again and the added bonus of "Little Lady" which we also used to play. I was really tickeled to see you have a website. I already ordered my Duke Jupiter tee shirt and will proudly wear it at my band's, KINGSTREET, next gig. By being a musician myself, I'm sure you guys must have a huge sense of pride over the qualitity and timeless music you have created. I never got to see you live but I'm sure it must have been fun. Keep me informed of any new news and Thanks for the music.

Thought about you guys today and remembered purchasing the 4 cut EP containing Rock 'n' roll band (which our band did and which was received well by audiences), Speed Limit (did this one, too), Begin again...ahhhh wore the EP almost out. Purchased "Band in blue" and "Sweet Cheeks" right from you after you had finished playing for the night. You all had to be exhausted, but you all took time to find the albums for me. Saw you several times 1980-1984, you never failed to perform well. Left NY in late 1985 for Orlando, have seen many club groups as well as Arena groups. You guys are one of the best Live and on Vinyl. Guess I'm showing my age. Thanks for the music and the great times.

I am so happy I found your site. I have been a fan of Duke Jupiter since I was 15 years old. My sister brought home your tape and I have been hooked ever since. We just recently found copies of the old tapes again and we were both thrilled. Thank you so much for your wonderful music! Martina

WOW, I was surfing the web and came across a site about another band(805) which started bringing back some great memories of my college days. Then I started thinking about Duke Jupiter(It took me a couple minutes to remember the name of the band, I am 40 now so my memory aint so good!!) All of the Great songs I used to listen to started coming back and I surfed further. A quick google search brings me to this site and what a treat!! I quickly downloaded the MP3's you offered and enjoyed the hell out of listening again. I also quickly placed my order for a new CD and can't wait to get it. I saw you guys live in Schenectady, NY a long time ago and remember a Great show!! I feel like I have an old friend back now. I would love to see you guys play again sometime. You Guys Rock!!

The LOOP and the Mighty MET used to play y'all a lot then they changed their formats and I think lost copies of your disks (either LP or CD). I would love to hear "I'll drink to you" once while on my car radio but now that I know can at least get the CD that's half the battle. (I got the words to the song a few years back at it was more a poignant song than I remember). Keep Rockin'!!!!

Found the website by accident a while ago. Recently gor an email talking about the new CD, immediately ordered it. Flipped around the site and saw the 3CD special - what the hell - you can never have enough Duke Jupiter in the music rack. Loved you guys growing up in Newark. Me and my buddies basically went everywher to see you - Sodus-Lyons-Newark-Canandaigua-Rochester-Geneseo-Syracuse- if it was drivable - we were there. 2003 reunion would be awesome - wouldn't miss it for the world.

Well, it only took about 15 years to find you fuckers. As an ex Camp Wally roommate I must say I miss your music and can only hope that somehow I can see you again on my infrequent visits back East. Wally is in SanDiego taking care of his father and Andy is doing well (you probably already know this) with wife and child ( who wooda taught?) I'm still with Matt (17 years) and semi-retarded in Palm Springs. It's awesome here and I don't even play golf! Please let me know if your dates for the reunion, I'll be in Rochester in late July and would love to see the show. We hope you guys are doing great and still have a brain cell or two left. I don't! Ahh...Duke Jupiter...I used to DJ at the Goblet in Auburn. Saw the band there many times, as well as at the old Stockade. I still have all the vinyl (including the four song ep with original version of Rock & Roll Band)in good shape...but what a delight it has been to find the material finally being issued on CD. Guys, please find it in your hearts to do more reunion shows...and yes, a DVD of last year's concert would be a consolation for those of us who couldn't make it.

I stumbled onto your website, and the memories just came flooding back. I'm sure I caught Duke Jupiter so many times I can't remember them all: TJ's in Lyons (owned by my 2nd cousin- Leonard Cipriano); Zappia's in Newark; the Dolphin "Sodus Point, New York, USA, Earth - If you can't hack it, grab a life jacket!"; the Penny Arcade. The list goes on, and on. You guys were as "Upstate" as "Tobin's white hots" and "Jenny Cream."

Dammit! I missed the reunion!! The pics make it look like it was a hell of a party. I'm the morning man at WKPQ-FM in Hornell, and Motel Room and I'll Drink To You are still in our re-current rotation. There are also pics from the KPQ birthday show in 1986 at the former Richie's Nightclub on my personal site. This was the next to last regular Dukes show. You can find it at http://www.infoblvd.net/phatcat/default.html Best wishes to the Dukes from their great fans in the Southern Tier of NY!

I first saw you guys jammin' at a concert at the Canton ATC campus (it must have been 1984) in Canton, NY. You were awesome THEN (Ricky was completely "coming into it" on bass up on stage!!), and I still listen to the VERY old tracks that I was fortunate enough to record back in those days. Those recordings are flat-out worn out from play, so I was EXTREMELY glad to find your website, and I just bought your collection CD - can't wait for it to arrive. I'll echo some of the comments I read in your guestbook - you put out the CD's, and I'll buy 'em! Thanks for the great music.

I've never heard the band in person, but I have a few of their songs and know one of the band members...I am quite impressed with the whole aura of this group...I think Marshall sounds like a cross between Hootie and The Boss...and I think Rick is totally awesome on the guitar...but then again...I'm quite partial since he's my best friend...I hope to some day hear the band in person...you guys Rock...

Please continue doing them Rochester just would not be the same without you. Thanks for your hard work and for caring about the fans here and around the country.

Excellent show!!! Oooh yeh! You guys really have not lost a thing. What a positive event, right down to the weather! And what an awful shame for all of the fans who would've loved to have made it but couldn't, it was truly an outstanding show. Also, to anyone not at the reunion, the 'White Knuckle Ride' CD was on sale there! So, if you want it, get them while they're still here! And thank you, thank you, guys, it was 18 years since I had seen you play, and I literally had goosebumps for the whole show! Maybe now you've got the itch to do one next year, huh? Thanks again

I'm bumming...a Duke Jupiter reunion show at FLPAC that I'm going to miss! Damn...Well, you guys have fun without me! I'm almost 10,000 miles away, but believe me...I'd make it, if I could! I was fortunate enough to be at many Duke shows, including the infamous concert at Charlotte, and the farewell show at the Warehouse (or was it the Horizontal Boogie Bar, by then? Can't remember...). One of my favorite R&R memorabelia items is the set list from that show; I have that tucked away, inside my Duke Jupiter 1 album, and it's a keeper! Thanks for all the great shows, and the wonderful memories! Please, please, please...somehow get those albums made available on CD...we'll buy them!! Take care, Pat

First time I went to a club I was under age at the Penny Arcade and Duke Jupiter was the band. From then on I was hooked and saw them as often as possible. I have all the original albums on vinyl and the greatest hits on CD. But the best thing I listen to is a Maxell tape I made in 1985 of my version of your greatest hits. I still play it in the car and it still sounds good. How about some T-shirts? I bet these would sell well on the web site. Thanks for playing the reunion concert, but not so long between shows next time.

Sorry I had to miss you guys at FLPAC, I'm sure it was a blast!! I remember all four sold out shows at the Festival Tent downtown, was there for every one of them. Saw Duke at the House of Guitars for a promo for the July 28th Concert and the CDs were going pretty steady. Had the disc in the moment I got home and enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait to see the other albums finally make it to cd, also. Peace out, and ROCK ON, DUKE!!!!!

Back before the corporate monstrositied ruined FM radio the airwaves of the Frisco Bay Area bounced with the awesome This is Japan. One listen and my knee started jerking, my toes started tapping and they haven't stopped since. Here in the psycho ward where no medication can stop those jerkings and tappings the medicos can not understand why I do what I do. This is Japan!!!!! Rock On!!!!!! So..... who's the REAL crazy one??? Me or the docs that likely convusle in glee when Lawrence Welk plays a song??? Rock On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys! Ever notice that many of your posts come from good old DANSVILLE! I just happened to log onto your site on a whim and was so excited to learn of your upcoming concert. Would not miss it for the world!!! Went to ALL the "tent" shows - awesome! I joke with my 10 yr. old daughter that Duke was her first concert because I was about 5-6 months pregnant when I "took" her to one of your shows. She thinks that is really cool! Look forward to the Dansville crew to reunite as well! You are awesome!!!

It is with the deepest regrets, that I will probably not be able to make the reunion show. Life has conspired to keep me in L.A. this summer. If there was anyway to be there I would be in a heartbeat. If anyone just happens to video tape the event, I would love to have a copy of the boys playing. wrocks@yahoo.com That nite, I will probably hoist a glass and drink to you! Enjoy the show!
