Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if Peter Morticelli or John Simmons are still running Pelican
in Rochester? I need to get hold of John on some project ideas.
I really miss these guys [Duke Jupiter]. I used to DJ/VJ in NY and PA and John
and Pete were my agents. I did some video projection for Duke once and had a
blast! The guys were flat out serious rockers!
Thanks!

out about the website and this is so great! Duke Jupiter was fantastic
and brings back so many memories, I saw them many times, in Oswego and
Cortland, we have our 20 year classs reunion next summer and Duke Jupiter
will definitely be part of it! "I'll drink to you" was our senior class
variety show theme!

Wow, the memories
of going to see Duke all over central NY, from Zappias in Newark, an old
bowling alley in Geneva, Geneseo, an old warehouse for the farewell in
Rochester, Syracuse, etc.etc, Remember, Cheater used to open for them
in Canandaigua? Let's see if I can remember which songs apply to which
girls? Ricky "bouncing" on stage. I used to see him at this deli across from his house (on lake ave) grabbing a sandwich, of course it was late afternoon and he probably just got up. Greg singing "Don't you walk that way" with that tube to alter his voice. The Night in Geneva when I think Marshall was trashed and just lost a girlfriend as he pounded the keyboard in a long crazy solo before going into "I'm Available". It was Great. Dave, best voice I ever heard from a drummer, well Phil Collins was "pretty good".
Thanks to the guy who recorded my first tape from his Album, whatever his name is, I hope he is happy with my ex. Thanks to my college roomie, Mike, who was also a fan as we trolled to concerts.
The music always places a smile on my face and sometimes the song "Don't you look at me like that" even
brings a tear......

A fifteen year old
kid and his buddy order fake idās from the back of Hit Parader magazine. Outside the Cork ĪN Bottle (Upstate NY) downing a couple of Budās stolen from his older brotherās stash, then confidently stepping through the door, flash the idās and some cash . . . ćYes, my name really is Tom Collins, and of course Iām old enough, sez so right there.ä And WEāRE IN!! Duke Jupiterās on stage, Marshall in his red velvet jacket (was it red?), ćLittle Ladyä REAL loud and we wanted a mixed drink . . . we donāt know how to do this . . . guy next to us orders a drink for his girlfriend and . . .uh, yeah Iāll have a sloe gin fizz too . . . nasty red drink in a big olā plastic cup but who the hell cares?! These are older girls in here and theyāre pretty and sweating and dancing and many of them are quite drunk. And the music is sooo good and everyone in this place gets it . . .and weāre
all grooving to it . . .and we never want it to end.

I've known Greg since
we used to skip Sunday school together and smoke cigarrettes in the church
basement. Earl Jetty I knew from his Red White & Blues Band days, when
all my best friends were in the band. What can I do but sing the praises
to these my friends, one very much living and one passed on, no doubt
wowing them in heaven with his awesome rhythms. Here's to one of the finest
rock bands, honest music, clean and clear! Today Greg stopped by and jammed
with my son, Adam, an upcoming singer/songwriter. Although Greg claimed
he hadn't touched the guitar in a long time, he still sounded as sweet
and original as ever. Old rock stars never die; they just take their licks
elsewhere.

Lincoln Zephyr, Mars
St.Miller, Marsh was real big in Rochester even before Duke Jupiter. I
was one of 4 ćpromotersä who used to book bands for St.Johnās coffeehouse on Ridge Rd. We couldnāt afford the $300 bucks to get Marsh to play, so we paid his brother Jay $15 to jam with Ernst. Even Jay was outstanding on guitar. Itās amazinā how much great music came outta such a small town. Other local faves were Red White and Blues Band,Black Sheep with Lou Grammico, Rain with Helmut Ghetto (die for a copy of Live Christmas Night, recorded at the Mariner Hotel), Whale, Typical Blimp (the Mendoza Bros.), Tootsie and the Rollers, Trackers, Wilmer, Bat and Don, Chuck and Gap, Armand and the whole HOG crew, CMF playinā the
boots, and hon mention (of course) to the rusdicks.
Yeah, I remember the concert in Charlotte, damn traffic was so bad, had to hoof
it over from the Greenleaf Meadows Apts. Probably for the best tho, it
was one of those rare sunshine, brotherhood, magical days that probably
only hits Rochester, once every hundred years or so. Gosh I remember it
like it was yesterday. Never been to anything as good or as much fun.
Been away goin on 20 years now, lost touch with my friends,
So, Bizbee, Stewart, Ernst, Fr.Lioi , I Drink To You!

I grew up listening to WMMS out of Cleveland Ohio. I was home sick one day from
HS. Kid Leo had these guy on his radio show. When they did White Knuckle Ride,
I about lost it. The only group that fired me up that much is Bruce and Southside
Johnny. I recently discovered Napster. I found there music. I will be looking
at picking up a CD or 2. Wish I had the chance to see Duke Jupiter live.

This is Lee checking

Jupiter, thanks to "The Line Of Your Fire", which I picked up recently
on second hand lp. Really stunning and melodic AOR !! I hope that Hits
cd becomes available again soon, and for that matter, all the albums should
be on cd - now that would be something to celebrate. Cheers to all

You know, sitting
here reading all the comments about "Would love all the DJ albums on disc." I agree! BUT I would still love to be able to complete my collection of vinyl! Most of the people in the music business that I've spoken recently seem to have all taken out their old record collection and started listening to it again! Seems the majority of them prefer the vinyl. They say it has a "warmer" sound.
I
have to agree, it's not as sterile and seems to have more depth, But
you still can't beat a disc for it's longevity!! Someone who has all
the music should start burning discs for distribution to all the devoted DJ fans!

I moved to the DC
area from Geneva, NY in 1974 and I've had my 33 RPM records packed away
all this time until about a month ago when we moved into our new house.
I found "Taste The Night" still sitting right next to probably the only surviving copy of "Wilmer Alexander and The Dukes", a soul band from Geneva. I can't get over what a great band Duke Jupiter was. I remember going to see them at the Bristol Ski Lodge being completely amazed by George's bass playing. His talent on the instrument was legendary and I was very sad to discover that he died. I had heard he was sick but living here I was kind of out of the loop. Then I found a cassette of one of my bands from here doing a quite respectable version of "When I'm With You" live
in some dive in Arlington from 1980, which I had completely forgotten
about. Anyway, I've been having a blast with this album; first I play
along on drums, then guitar, then bass which is my real instrument. It's
more fun than drugs... If any of the surviving members are reading this,
thanks guys for making some fantastic music. And just for grins, link
to www.wjdpm.com/band and check out the blazing 11 piece soul band I've
been playing with for the past 18 years. We kick butt for a bunch of geezers.

I was too young to catch the early Duke Jupiter years but when I worked at Red
Creek in the early 90's I got to know the guys when they played with a bunch
of other bands ( including a 3/4 of Duke Jupiter band minus Marshall I think
was called Network ). The guys that I knew ( mostly Dave and Ricky ) made great
music with whoever they played with and they were always great to their fans.
I never missed a reunion show and they never let me down. There was a magic at
those annual get togethers at the festival tent that i had never experienced
before or since. I hope they caught some of those shows on tape ( especially
with the horn section ) and get them out on CD someday.....most of all 2001 would
be a great year for another Duke Reunion show!!!!

Well, Just wanted to say that i am still on the lookout for all of your albums,
the only one i have is the white knuckle ride... and it really rocks! It amazes
me how many people are out there that remember your music and are willing to
pay some good hard cash for it... hint hint. Oh well, on with the search.

Wonderful site!
A local Band here in Ontario used to play covers of your tunes, and turned many
a person on to your stuff. Now, here I sit, 20 years later,a dedicated
musician myself, influenced and inspired beyond words! "I'll drink to you",and "slow, loud, and dirty" are
in my opinion, two of the finest songs ever recorded!
I hope that in my final days of music, that i might have a fraction of the love
that your fans feel for you and the rest of Duke Jupiter!
Be very proud of what you have accomplished here...your music has touched so
many!
all the best...

I had a blast over
the years listening to you and seeing you play. The Penney Arcade rocked.
In the early days you did music that no other band around had the talent
to pull off. Thanks for the memories. Remember "Camp Wally". "Days Between Us" will
always be a favorite instrumental. Come back and play any time. You'll
still draw a crowd.

Here's the plan: set
up all the publishing and royalties, then get some Duke Jupiter tracks
in the soundtrack of a Tom Cruise movie.....Capitalize on the soundtrack,
have Rhino or Apple or someone reissue the catalog, and then do a box
set (hire me to compile).....Note: rare tracks, as follows:
Begin Again EP on Powerglide Records, 7-inch, different version of "Begin Again" and "Rock And Roll Band"; also a 12-inch edition exists...
I'll Drink To You b/w Begin Again single on Coast to Coast with abridged "Drink.." and different version of "Begin Again"...."Rock and Roll Band" 45 on Coast to Coast is also edited by about a minute....."You Make It Look Easy" single is also abridged from the album...."This Is Japan" promo 12-inch single with better fidelity for club play, but not stated on the label......"The Line of Your Fire" single on Motown has incorrect songwriting credits....My Canadian import of Duke Jupiter I is on Epic Records....sometimes I find used copies of other LPs on Mercury with Duke Jupiter "Sweet Cheeks" advertised on the inner sleeve....don't tell Pete Morticelli department: I have a live tape of one of the last performances at Red Creek...truly, I accidentally taped it, and once I noticed, I kept flipping the cassettes so I'd have the entire show and a memory of the band with "I Refuse" and "Out of My Mind".....also for fun....I have a demo of "Runaway" by Jay Styler's band "Ariel" and a demo of Gary Quinn's group "Knots" in my collection....does anyone have an opinion of what nightclub DJ played the most diverse Duke Jupiter music?
PS: Has anyone heard from the real tall girl that used to like Marsh alot? she used to visit me in the Red Creek dj booth all the time......and where is my friend Joe "Beates" Barnes?......God,
I miss those guys, we had some serious laughs......please write back.. Did I
mention I'd work on the box set?

What a nice surprise to find this gem of a web site!! Thank you Greg! When you
get some more CD's ready to sell, please but this ex-Rochester area girl at the
top of the list!!
I will always remember the shows at Red Creek {especially Christmas night!} The
first time I saw you guys was when Marshall opened the back door at Gentleman
Jim's in Geneseo for me to sneak in. I also remember the beach concert and traffic
jam for the ages!!!

I was just trying
to get to sleep when "Slow, Loud and Dirty" popped in my head! I haven't
thought about that song in years! I got up and went on a search for you
on the net. I'm very happy to find this web site, but very disappointed
that there are no CD's available. I'm 24 and I literally grew up listening
to your music. Thank you for all the great tunes.

i can't begin to fathom the days between us. it seems like only yesterday we
were young and hungry, just dying to find out what waited for us beyond the horizon.
it's been a great ride, and looking back i might have done some things differently,
but you are certainly not one of them. thanks for everything, but especially
for being such a big part of the soundtrack of my life.

you played at my high
school when I was a kid, grew up listening to you. Not a whole lot comes
out of Rochester that you can be proud of, but you guys made us all proud.
Every year a bunch of us from school get together for a cook-out/reunion-
year after year -your tapes are played, and no matter what you're doing
at the time-when one of your songs come on-you just take a step back and
say "man, these guys were the greatest" well, saw you at the beach, saw
you under the tent, miss you alot. I keep thinking I'll see you on VH1/where
are they now?--but I don't...Just wanted to let you know that you all
are truly missed, and that you touched alot of us that were hard to reach....

I used to have the tape White Knuckle Ride and loved the song Little Lady. I
played the song in a local bar band I used to be in and people used to go nuts
for it. Please start printing your albums on CD so we can enjoy them again!

My first real apartment
with my best friend, sometime around 1983 (our girlfriends pretty much
lived with us :) !) and we wore out TWO copies of Duke Jupiter 1. Then
my best friend went in the service, the girlfriend and I split up, all
that...but "I'll Drink YTo You often pops into my head. In about 1988,
I heard that that ex-girlfriend had found a copy of that old Duke Jup
favorite.
I begged her to let me borrow it, and I was psyched just to have talked to her
again. She finally said yes, and I went home and made a tape. I returned
the album, and, since no one was home at her house, sat it on the counter.
How was I supposed to know that under the counter was the dishwasher (or
washing machine)? She tracked me down, more angry than ever! The album
gotten all warped fromt he heat! I was sad, but she thought that I had
done it on purpose or something. That's my luck. Man would I love to find
a copy of that cd. Any chance?
